The Certified CrossFit Level 4 Coach (CF-L4) performance evaluation is a one-day assessment of a trainer’s ability to effectively coach CrossFit movements and run a successful class. This evaluation is for experienced trainers who have been coaching CrossFit in a group setting for several years. This credential is earned by trainers who have significant coaching experience, a comprehensive educational background, and CrossFit’s prerequisite certification — the Certified CrossFit Level 3 Trainer.
The CF-L4 evaluation is a performance-based assessment of a candidate’s ability to coach athletes of varying experience and ability levels through a typical 60-minute class at a CrossFit affiliate. The evaluation consists of two CrossFit classes coached by the candidate.
The evaluation assesses a candidate’s proficiency in six main domains:
- Teaching (to include demonstration)
- Class management
- Presence and attitude
Each domain represents one quality of an effective coach, and the content outlined in the Candidate Handbook includes the knowledge and skills required to be effective in that domain. Candidates can assess their readiness for the evaluation according to their ability to demonstrate these skills in their regular coaching practice.
The CF-L4 evaluation is NOT an educational course, nor an opportunity to receive feedback on your coaching. Raters are not able to discuss your evaluation. Performance is addressed formally through the written results diagnostic only.
This credential is valid for three years and requires the following maintenance:
- 50 CEUs during the recertification period
- Current CPR/AED training (every two years)
- 300 coaching hours
